Training and Development

Case Studies:

I regularly run two day courses in Recruitment and Selection:

  • On day one I give a brief overview of relevant legislation, then move onto job analysis, job descriptions, and how to write person specifications and which competencies to use. We discuss selection methods, the interview panel and how to use behavioural questions. Delegates then prepare for day two, when they will interview an actor who plays the part of two people applying for two different jobs. Delegates have to write a person specification, draw up the questions and decide how to run the interview. Both interviews are filmed on video, as well as being observed by the other delegates. Interview panels have to communicate their decisions to the “candidate”. Extensive feedback is given, one to one and in discussion during the playback of the video.

For over 2 years I have been delivering a Personal Effectiveness programme for team leaders lasting for 5 short sessions over a 10 week period covering:

  • practical ways of enhancing emotional intelligence, self esteem and self confidence, positive thinking, stress management, assertive ways of negotiating and handling difficult situations. Psychometrics at the beginning and end of the course have shown significant increases in emotional intelligence , self esteem and self efficacy.

For 2 years I have been delivering a half day Stress Management workshop:

  • with an occupational health physician who covers the medical aspects, whilst I provide a number of simple tools to increase resilience to stress including relaxation, use of gratitude diaries, negative and positive thinking.  This has had excellent feedback from participants.
